GOOD BOY / 乖仔

After eleven-year-old Ben is suspended from school for hitting another boy, the first thing his mom asks him is, "Are you going to cry?" Ben knows there's only one right answer, so he tightens his fists and shakes his head. His mom nods: "Good boy / 乖仔." But buried feelings inevitably resurface, like the sudden rash that keeps Ben up at night after his mom leaves him in his Grandma Su's care. Grandma Su knows what it's like to hold something big inside a small body. So she shows him how to collect cans, how to win at marbles, how to mend broken ends with a needle and thread - and that it's okay to cry.
